The process is an extreme user on my system at start up, which for me is no surprise as my computer has a processer less than a gig and the RAM is horrendous. However, if I just let it do its thing, I can easily have back the speed I usually have on my computer and the CPU usage is usually about 7% steady all together for me with this process running continuously. So unless NAVAPSVC.exe came out of nowhere and you don't know where it came from, there is actually nothing to worry about except maybe finding a better processor that works with the rest of the computer or just living with the usage

After your program downloads the automatc protections updates, your norton antivirus starts a quickscan...disable this feature under norton options for antivirus and you should see a difference.

It stops some programs from running because it takes up so much of the CPU memory. I never had this problem before I tried Norton. I'm going back to the other program.

Symantec support page "navapsvc.exe cpu" did not work as I previously thought. It only shut off Auto Protect. What DID work was placing a memory card in the cardreader so that navapsvc.exe could scan it and then go to sleep. Now using 00% cpu again with printer & integrated card reader attached.

Cardreader/printer attached causes high CPU. Disconnecting printer with integrated cardreader drops CPU usage by navapsvc. Fix found by searching "navapsvc.exe cpu" on Symantec support site.

Owned by Symantec. makes them evil. Symantec previously sent 750 malicious emails a day to twc-industries.com now known as Time Warner Cable... on top of that Symantec would say a specific code was a virus while infact it was LEGITIMATE for example in 95ish Diablo was one. is this the form of a wrongfully forced Boycot on the unknowing user?.... screw symantec and everything they make. its junk. thats why its slow. their coding (im guessing) is first (the old stuff) blocking things they shouldnt then the new coding is telling it to unblock it? im not certain. but there is no reason for lag.

It is a malware eating up memory. It is named after a process of Norton but it's not Norton. I solved the problem with Outpost Firewall ... I blocked the process and that was it
