Your on-board display adapter cannot function without installing this driver. When this driver is not installed, your on board display adapter will be absent and your graphics will be poor- causing some games to be unplayable. The file is can be downloaded at driverguide.com. Download the file, reinstall windows and when prompted for the file locate and install it.

It is on your motherboard CD. If you bought a computer already built such Dell, HP your up a creek. If you had someone build you a computer they should have gave you the CD but more than likely kept because they knew you would be back with trouble and could charge you more. Don't think these people don't make copies of your CD's.

when i installed SP 2 over SP 1, indeed WINDOWS halted installation and requested VIAAGP1. i called my "pc repair guy" and asked what is it. he said he'd never heard of it and surmised that it belongs to some software previously installed. he recommended that i skip it, and i did. the pc works fine. I also just removed a fujitsu floppy drive and replaced it with another brand, which also may cause that request. I attached here a link to download VIAAGP1: http://www.dynamiclink.nl/htmfiles/rframes/info_sys/info_v/11.htm

It's a AGP driver for VIA video cards. It is generally not essential to running Windows, however for anyone intending to play games failure to have this driver will result in Windows being unable to identify your video card. While the card will work fine, many games will not be able to detect that you have a video card and thus will not let you play the game because it cannot tell what video card you have. Should you find this file needed or missing (as was the case with me) please visit http://www.viaarena.com/ and download the appropriate VIA Hyperion Drivers for your operating system.

When I tried to reinstall Windows XP, this files was requested, "on the VIA AGP Filter Driver Disk". I have no disk of that name, and could not find the file on any of my disks. I carried on without it and now the PC won't get past login. It flashes up an error message on a blue screen, but disappears too fast to read properly, something to do with display adaptor and BIOS updates.
